Report: Novatek starts testing second stage of Yamal LNG

MOSCOW, Mar 16 (PRIME) -- Novatek has started testing the second stage of the Yamal Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) facility which is to be launched in July-September, Deputy CEO and CFO Mark Gyetvay said in an interview with Bloomberg TV broadcast released on Friday.

“We have initiated commissioning works at the second stage,” he said.

In January, Gyetvay said the second stage of the plant was to be launched in September.

The facility now uses four ice-class tankers to deliver LNG and will need 15 such tankers in the future, the executive said.

The Yamal LNG project envisages construction of a 16.5 million tonne LNG plant on the basis of the Yuzhno-Tambeiskoye field on the Yamal Peninsula. Russian independent gas producer Novatek holds 50.1% in the project, France’s Total has 20%, China’s CNPC owns 20% and China’s Silk Road Fund holds 9.9%.
